Home School: Day 1 Helpful Take AwaysYesterday was a big day kicking off the start of home schooling in these completely strange times. Some things I noticed that were helpful: -Bringing in stuffed animals into the learning space calling them students or classroom friends. -Let them teach me about a subject of their choice and utilize a you tube video to help. -Letting them line up, be the line leader, or make the zero level hand signal for transitions. -Move to a cozy space for reading. -Lots of positive reinforcement and rewards on work attempted and completed. -Video record: they love watching themselves and reinforces topics. -Real World outings. -Let them know their teachers are still involved. -Facetime conversation with a loved one about the video and their learning day. We started out strong doing science with slime, rainbows, and friction. We also worked on math with counting money, art with rainbows, recess at the park, science with pollen, writing a how to piece, sight words, numbers, alphabet writing, and reading of course. We also had a real world trip to the vet. The kids saw an X-ray of Vera Wang’s neck and had the opportunity to interview the doctor. Please comment below on things you found helpful as we navigate this new territory together! Thanks and stay healthy! |
