Canine-Assisted Therapy
Animal-Assisted Counseling is a specialized therapeutic process incorporating the trained therapy animal in the therapeutic relationship with the licensed counselor and client. Celeste Johnson is a registered therapy animal handler who partners up with her registered therapy dog, Vera Wang. Celeste has received education and supervised university training with Vera Wang in involving her in specialized interventions that aid the client in reaching therapeutic goals.
Human-Animal connection has long proven to be therapeutic. Therapy animal research has shown how the presence and interaction of the animal can lower heart rate and blood pressure improving overall well-being. Clients participating in animal-assisted therapy research report increased sense of comfort, support, and feelings of unconditional acceptance. |
